“How Much Do U Know of Blockchain?” — IRISnet at SMG Radioshow “Citizens & Society”
Haifeng Xi, founder of IRISnet, was invited to a radio show called “Citizens and Society” on Nov 1st, to have a dialogue with Chang Qin, Shanghai Media Group’s (SMG) Chief Host and Xiaofeng Ma, Director of Shanghai Blockchain Technology Research Center. The topic of their dialogue was “How Much Do U Know of Blockchain?”

Below is the translation of what was mentioned by Haifeng, although some content was deleted and modified:
I entered into this field mainly under the influence of Wanxiang Blockchain Lab. Back then, I had been developing distributed systems for many years. My co-founder had been focusing on big data and artificial intelligence. We both want to integrate these technologies to solve problems.
It’s hard to explain what Blockchain really is in a few sentences. Blockchain is a solution based on pre-existing technologies, including P2P distributed networks, cryptography, and special data structures. It is a distributed and trusted shared ledger.
One of the many things that Bianjie does, is to address some of the issues that currently exist in the medical field. Medical data is currently shared among multiple medical institutions and thus may cause privacy and data security issues. The traditional approach is to develop a big-data platform and all the medical data would be collected and shared on the platform. However, some hospitals might not want to collect their data. A potential data breach is also possible. Moreover, those medical data originally belonged to the patients but the ownership of those data would become blurry after being sent out and shared. To tackle this, we use edge computing. Edge computing allows for some queries on the medical history while the data is still at the source institutions.
Blockchain is different from traditional databases because nobody can alter it once data is uploaded in the system, neither a hacker nor someone from inside.
In addition to big data and artificial intelligence, we also work on cross-chain technology. There will be more blockchains in the future, and cross-chaining can avoid data isolation between blockchains. We will continue to focus on products and technologies.
