… WITH A NEW ATTRIBUTE READY FOR FACEBOOK AND MESSENGER

Task 4 -:-:- Week 4 -:-:- Ironhack Bootcamp Berlin -:-:- Individual Project

TASK
New week, new task. Four days to work on it. Ironhack style. Think, brainstorm, and get this idea on paper (and prototype)! Focus on UI, user interface design. Align your new feature with the given brand as if they had really incorporated it. Let there be no difference in style. Be precise. Take a close look at the brand.

The feature I was to create was a payment function among Facebook friends. Get the money issue out of the way fast so you can focus on the important things of your friendship and do not fight over money. Bei Geld hört die Freundschaft auf — friendship ends with money.

CONCEPT TESTING — WOULD YOU?
Before I started to incorporate the new feature I asked several people on campus whether they felt a feature like this was nice to have or redundant. While some were skeptical about it because they did not trust Facebook most of them liked the idea. We started talking about if there was no such feature yet and found out that some countries had already incorporated one. Germany hadn’t, so off I went with a job to be done, a JTBD:

When I owe money to a friend — situation
I want to pay it back fast and easily — motivation
So I can focus on the friendship not the money due — outcome

SOLUTION — PAY WITH MESSENGER FOLLOWING THREE SIMPLE STEPS

Step 1 Register your credit card credentials on Facebook

Step 2 — Open messenger and just click on the credit card icon in a chat

Step 3 — Enter and confirm the amount of money you want to pay to a friend

REWINDING BACK TO AN EARLIER STAGE OF THE UX PROCESS
Before I came up with the high-fidelity prototype, I set up a user journey and went on with a low-fi wireflow and usability testing because in UX it is all about the process.

User Journey: Step 1 (a bit like in the old days when I studied visual communications in Potsdam where we did quick sketches to warm up for some serious, elaborate illustrating).
User Journey: Step 2

I also carried out an interface inventory since we are not starting from scratch. On the contrary, there is already an established corporate design to draw from, such as the color palette, the typography and iconography, just to name a few.

LEARNINGS
When you examine the UI of a product and rebuild it in your prototype you soon feel the urge to remember the short cuts used in Sketch because it saves you a lot of time. Ctrl C to pick a certain color and simply pressing B or F to (un)do a border or filling of a shape are among my favorite ones. Cmd is handy to choose a particular object in a group. Also, it is advisable to have an extensive set of icons at hand so that you do not lose precious time looking for them.
