The Bearer Health Record is the missing piece to a rebirth of healthcare, a new asset offered over the permissionless Iryo Network.

In February I proposed The case for Bearer Health Records which in some ways resembles bearer digital instruments and offers the independence of the identity- with the private-key owner always able to exercise control.

For these kinds of assets to become viable, the following is needed:

1.) Open standards
2.) Open source app
3.) Local copy
4.) Real-time data writes
5.) Control enforcement through permissions and encryption
6.) No ID and third-party controlled accounts

Even if lawfully you own the data; keep in mind that possession is 9/10ths of the law.

If you are forced to ask for permission to access your own data, you as a data owner will never be able to create a sustainable ecosystem around your own health data.

The magic happens once the role is reversed, and healthcare providers, institutions, researchers, businesses, platforms start asking you for permission to look, edit or use your data.

This significant switch in the balance of powers will breaks the silos of:

• Shameless software suppliers with a vendor lock/in business model that cant be switched for better one.
• Corrupted or negligent healthcare providers, who issue procurement offers demanding custom solutions, which bring multi-decade software lock-in and millions wasted in the process.

It is important to emphasize, that blockchain itself does not offer Bearer Health Records creation; in fact, many competitors are building silos- “but with a blockchain”.

What blockchain does provide, are incentives with (token) value routing to the Bearer Health Record holder. In current systems, patient’s do not have the ability to be their own gatekeeper of their medical data; consequently there is nothing to incentivise them for.

Network effects that only work when patient is ‘The Bearer’:

1.) An ecosystem of apps,

that can plug in directly to the user records, skip the gatekeeper and its unreasonable authentication criteria.

2.) Ecosystem of IOT health devices.

Bearer health records allow even non-clinical devices to help monitor your health and offer early detection of diseases related to poor health. While healthcare institutions consider wellness data a liability, the bearer aspect of the record is free to include it for his own analysis.

3.) Listings of high-quality health providers for patients to choose from.

All the providers in the Iryo system will be able to write directly to the patient’s records, even if they come from different institutions (for example, going from one primary doctor to a specialist). This gives the patient an opportunity for a comprehensive record of all specialists he comes in contact with, without the danger of his data getting stuck in different systems. It makes patient choice between providers easy. Always go with one that supports the Bearer Health Record.

4.) An ecosystem of researchers

that incentivise you to share the data, and with some additional Iryo monetary incentives, provide you with free (anonymous) actionable algorithms. For example, patients that join the Network will receive free queries that would determine the risks and offer information on which health care provider they need to consult and which tests would be beneficial for them to have.

Iryo based Bearer Health Assets are needed to jumpstart the era of open-source, AI-generated advice. All this without the risk of sharing the data with multinational conglomerates, that can’t wait to start tapping into the last frontier of personal data abuse — your health data.

Taking care of your data can seem like a lot of work. This is where user-friendly Iryo apps and ability for delegation to you doctor comes in handy; but having the option to load the app and revoke the delegation at any time is crucial.

Travellers, digital nomads, and especially refugees know that not having a choice can lead to permanent loss of their medical history.

Additionally, there are thousands of documented cases where patients suffer medical malpractice due to inconsistencies found within medical record silos. Bearer Health Records alongside open standards remove the inconsistency and allow the records to be authenticated even by the owner, decreasing potential accidents and saving lives.

So join the Iryo Healthcare data silos smashing community; where the only gatekeeper to your health data… is you.
