SolSea, a leading NFT marketplace on Solana, has integrated Irys to permanently store its data, including NFT data, on Arweave via Irys. Irys makes web3 data storage accessible by making it as fast, easy, and reliable as traditional data storage. Its goal is to allow everyone both in and out of web3 to benefit from decentralized, permanent data storage

Decentralized, permanent storage is critical for the NFTs ecosystem. While many NFTs are stored on decentralized data chains, they are not stored permanently. For example, on IPFS data is stored in nodes, however, unlike Arweave, the nodes are not incentivized to store data permanently. When a node begins to reach capacity, it triggers a process called Garbage Collection. This is when nodes starts automatically deleting data it no longer thinks necessary and begins clearing these items. It collects, labels, and then deletes data from across the network that is deemed as “unwanted.”

Given the tremendous amount of money in the ecosystem, this is a huge risk for creators and developers. To address this issue, SolSea has chosen Irys to store and protect their NFTs.

By using Irys, SolSea ensures that their data, including NFT metadata, is not just secure, but permanent.

SolSea is the first NFT marketplace that enables creators to choose and embed licenses when they mint NFTs. It empowers creators to know what they are selling, and collectors to know what they are buying.

For SolSea, from day one, it was very important to help creators and collectors, and give them an easy way to use the marketplace for all of their needs. That being said, they wanted to do everything to ensure that both artists and collectors feel secure and know that all the NFTs that they’re creating, minting, and buying are stored the right way: on a permissionless, decentralized, permanent blockchain. That’s why SolSea is very excited to bring this important benefit to all its users through its partnership with Irys.

“We want our community to feel secure at all times with their transactions on our market,” explains Vitomir Jevremović, SolSea CEO & Founder. “That is why we chose Irys, so we can ensure each and every single one of our users that their NFT data is protected and permanent. We believe it’s the best security we can offer our community.”

“NFTs are all the buzz, but most don’t think about how those NFTs are stored,” says Josh Benaron. “You wouldn’t store a valuable baseball card collection in a humid basement. Why would you treat your NFTs any differently? Permanent, decentralized storage is the only way NFT data should be stored. That’s why Arweave and Irys exists, to protect the community.”

All NFTs on SolSea are now protected by Arweave via Irys.
