In the wake of yet another racism-fueled deadly attack on persons of Asian descent–this time in Atlanta, GA–IRU community members released the following statement:

The AAPI community has experienced different forms of racism over the decades. The anti Asian narrative has been defined before and the latest iteration focused on COVID and China.

While the AAPI Identity is all encompassing, this is an attack on our community and we must be allies. Last night’s tragedy also sheds light on the compounding effects of gender and socioeconomic status on the rise of violence towards Asian Americans. The media may try and down play or spin this — but we see it for what it is, an act of racism.

That said, allyship and education is the way we move forward. To that end, we encourage our followers to engage with and learn from the following organizations and individuals.

AAPI organizations and Instagram pages we encourage you to support:

  • We are AA now
  • Hate is a Virus
  • Next Shark
  • AAPI Women Lead
  • Asian AAF
  • Stop AAPI Hate HYC
  • Asians 4 Anti-Racism
  • Asian American Collective
  • Smithsonian APA Center
  • Unapologetically Asian
  • Goldhouse Co
  • Asian American Girl Club
