Before Night Falls

Before night falls is when I think
the most deeply about myself
and every decision I have ever made
that led to this very moment
where I am sitting in wait
for something special to happen,
but no one ever got anything
from sitting in wait

Before night falls is a time
for me to be with myself
and think of my fondest memories
and of all the people who made
a difference in my life
and helped me become the
person that I am today

Before night falls is when I think
of everyone I’ve lost, but also
everyone I have, and how I
couldn’t be any more fortunuate
to have two children even though
I lost two parents along the way

Before night falls is when I type
into this void, hoping for connection
and then realizing that the connection
is within myself, and the act of typing
is an homage to the person I am
at this exact moment, which also is
before night falls
