Latin America is turning the corner. After several years of stagnation, economies are growing and business investment is increasing. But headwinds remain and the recovery is uneven across the region.

A series of national elections across the region in 2018 can transform political institutions and offer an opportunity for improved governance. Young people across the region are increasingly entrepreneurial. Citizens are more empowered through mobile technologies and social media to drive political and societal change. Urbanization is taking place at a pace faster than anywhere in the world. Middle class consumers are growing, but income equities must be narrowed.

The digital landscape is dynamic, with rippling impacts on business, consumerism and social progress. Countries are aligning their development strategies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to advance solutions in hunger and nutrition, education, healthcare and social protections. Women are increasing their participation in politics, business and society, even as they continue to face barriers. Climate change will disproportionally impact the region’s development and its wealth of environmental assets. There are opportunities to advance regional and global integration through more favorable policies, trade agreements and inward investment.

Political leaders and companies that ready themselves for these changes can benefit from the region’s evolving landscape. Weber Shandwick’s new report, LATIN AMERICA: 10 MEGATRENDS DRIVING CHANGE — explores both risks and opportunities that define Latin America’s economic, political and social narrative in 2019 and beyond.
