I have been using Scrum for some years and I can see the benefits of agile methodologies, however, when we are handling a project based on PMI standards, it does not mean we cannot combine them rightly.

One of the most important features I like about Scrum is the Standup Meeting where all the team members share the status on their current tasks, so this is considered a progress report and in project management, between more constant information of the project we have, it is much better to be with latest news.

On the other hand, the Sprint Reviews are meeting where the team members can asses their work and share the outcomes with the stakeholders, this meeting provides quite useful information for the project manager, because it is the right moment, to see the project temporary outcomes and get feedback about the process.

About the Sprint Planning, it is a meeting where the team members arrange the incoming tasks and estimations, for example, this meeting is a great opportunity for the project manager to see if the goals of the project are being attended correctly or even the benefits of the portfolio are keeping on mind.

As you can see, Scrum can be a good partner for project management and it provides a lot of information that with the right driving, we can continue working with our standards and offering progress about the generated value to the stakeholders.

I would like to share the article “Agile project management with Scrum” by PMI, where the authors make a great job providing each step in Scrum tied to the project management processes.
