Meet Anna, and find out what keeps her busy, and why working in SEO is like playing a game every day.

Hi Anna, tell us a bit about your role and how long have you been at iTech?

Hi, I’m Anna. I am an SEO Specialist and I joined iTech in July 2022.

What’s been your journey into SEO?

It is complicated! I have always been passionate about natural sciences, computer science, medicine, and writing. My dream was to become a scientist, doctor, physics teacher or programmer. I decided to study ecotechnology at the chemical department of the technical university. In my free time, I also studied management and marketing.

In my career, I spent some time working in a lab, then an IT department, also as a private science tutor, as a ghostwriter, and in some projects related to building websites and databases. All of sudden I discovered SEO — and it was a breakthrough discovery! I realised I have always been doing it, I just didn’t know the name of it.

SEO is a perfect mixture of most of my interests and fits my personality perfectly. It feels like every day I am training my brain by playing a strategic game — breaking the search engines’ secret codes by data analysis and answering all “Why?” questions — and I am being paid for it. I love it — and I believe that we all should be doing in our lives what we love to do.

What does day-to-day life in your role look like?

I start my day checking what is going on in the account. If there are big changes, I try to prioritise research. I join my daily stand up to listen to my team trying to find areas where I could help, or where they could help me with optimisations. The rest of my work is giving more recommendations, fixing issues, finding opportunities, planning short- and long-term actions, as well as quickly reacting to the changing environment.

I really love the people in my team. It is amazing how knowledgeable all these people are, so I don’t have to spend my time explaining some technical aspects or convince anybody to the value of the SEO. You can assume that everyone already has great knowledge.

I also very much appreciate the ability to discuss things with other SEOs working on the different products supported by iTech.

If you could have an unlimited supply of one thing, what would it be?

I would ask for an unlimited supply of clean energy, so I could share it with the rest of the world and tackle one of many challenges the world is facing at the moment.

What has been your biggest learning curve at iTech?

I love that iTech supports personal development. We have a bi-weekly training day every Friday, accompanied with a £1,000 yearly budget to spend on learning resources. My library expanded because I purchased A LOT of technical books. I also love the access to all internal tools, where I can practise the knowledge I’ve gained, which massively helps my growth and career development.

What’s the number one thing you want to achieve this year at work?

At the moment, we are working on a fascinating project, so its success is my main priority at the moment. I am also going to focus more on using the resources we have and learning new programming skills.

What do you enjoy most outside of work?

My other big passions are ecotechnology, organic gardening, minimalism and volunteering. I spend most of my free time with my two amazing daughters.

What’s on your bucket list for this year?

Happiness. Supporting world peace.
