Itheum 101: How to Create an Elrond Web Wallet
Elrond is a fast, highly scalable, and secure blockchain platform giving everyone easy access to the digital economy by providing massive improvements in blockchain speed, scale, cost, and user experience.
$EGLD serves as the native token of the Elrond network and is used across applications, as well as for sending transactions and incentivizing actors to support the ecosystem. In addition, ESDTs (Elrond Standard Digital Tokens) are custom tokens existing on its blockchain — $ITHEUM will initially exist as an ESDT on Elrond.
Like other tokens, users need to have a secure and reliable wallet to keep their $EGLD assets safe. Luckily, Elrond provides support for wallets that allow users to do this quickly and easily.
Here’s a quick guide on how to get started with the Elrond Web and Maiar DeFi wallets.
Creating an Elrond Web Wallet
1. Log on to https://wallet.elrond.com/
If you’re visiting the site for the first time, you will be provided with a series of informative popup slides that you must read before proceeding. The final popup will then prompt you to proceed — click To the wallet to continue.
2. You’ll be directed to the main wallet page — click Create Wallet to proceed
3. Disclaimer, terms, and conditions: Please read carefully, then select both and click Confirm
4. Secret phrase
Next, you’ll be given a set of 24 random words that you must note down in the exact same order and store safely (offline recommended) — you’ll have to enter this phrase to access your wallet later. Once you have saved your phrase, check the confirmation box and click Continue.
Please note that your secret phrase should not be shared with anyone — it should be written down and stored offline in a secure place, as mentioned above.
5. Surprise quiz
The next slide has a surprise test to check whether you’ve saved your phrase in the same order as provided. You’ll be asked to enter words based on their position in the phrase as follows:
After entering the words requested in the test sections, you can click on Continue to move forward or Back to words if you need to re-check or re-save your words.
6. Create a password
The wallet automatically creates a keystore file with your secret phrase — you will have to create a password to protect that file. Ensure that you save this password securely, as you will need it to verify your keystore file while logging in.
Click Continue to proceed.
7. Confirmation: Wallet Created!
After completing the test, your wallet will be created, and the keystore file will be automatically downloaded. In case the file didn’t get downloaded automatically, or you happened to delete it by mistake, you can click on Download keystore file again.
Once you have your keystore file stored securely, click on Access Wallet to move forward.
8. Accessing your wallet:
To access your wallet, you will need to upload your keystore file and enter your password to protect it. Once done, you can click on Access Wallet to see and explore what the wallet has to offer!
9. Dashboard view
Your Elrond wallet dashboard will look like this:
On the dashboard, you can view your $EGLD balances and perform various functionalities on the platform.
