A Letter to my Queer Brothers and Sisters
Fellow queer comrades, friends, and lovely acquaintances,
When an anti-trans git darkens your time line using “biology” or “science” as a rationalization for just being nasty, realize those arguments are irrelevant. They merely exist for lack of any good reason to be shitty.
The “science” of human biology has always been rooted in some sort of societal bias. Look up “separate spheres” ideology for a good example. The biases and goofy science already existed in Western society before any “real” science came about, and it is always changing. That is the nature of any scientific fact.
Bigots quote scientific “facts and statistics” like the Bible, which already demonstrates their lack of understanding concerning science and statistics. But they do this for lack of a better reason for their irrational behaviour. Do not give in. Do not give them what they want.
What they want is to argue in bad faith. They want you to believe their pathetic, petulant and contrarian displays show them to be “critical thinkers.” They want you to get bogged down in irrelevancies and minutia. They want you to get mad and defensive. What you should say is that their points are irrelevant. They have no bearing on your life or the basic realities of millions of people.
“What are those basic realities?” That the public does not give a damn about your genitals or what your karyotype is. No one cares about “biology” or “science” except scientists, doctors, engineers, autodidacts, and hobbyists, people who make it their business to know for other reasons besides cruelly messing with people’s heads. Just look at the example above. These are the sorts of people who vainly, publicly declare that they only care about facts when putting down others. They publish such impoverished points-of-view you wonder if they just texted after surviving a head-on collision while, of course, texting. They do it for their own benefit and no one else’s, especially not yours.
“Why?” For the simple fact that such information about yourself is only relevant to you and you alone. It is not required for you to be tasked with telling every stranger you have dealings with your entire medical history. Your presentation is satisfactory for most engagements.
“Why is that? Why is it that your presentation, how you introduce yourself to others, is satisfactory, perfectly normal, and in no way obtrusive or suspicious?” Well, that is due to how our society evolved before we learned anything else about ourselves.
If the bigots insist their opinions must be heard for the good of “Western Civilization,” just tell them their opinions are crap and leave it at that. They know who their audience is. You do not have to validate them.
Go out there. Seek the helpers and the lovers. Leave these wraiths behind. They dwell in the world of shadow. Nothing good grows from the grounds they trod. Through the thorny brambles of oppression, you will find helpers and allies. You will learn to love again and be free.
Remember, do not listen to bigots. Know that these people will hate us no matter what we do. Transition if you can or want. Be happy. Be enby if you so desire. Do not feel forced to live a life of loathing and regret to make others happy, because it won’t.
