“Do Women Want Equality”: My first MRA experience on Medium.

Yesterday, my eyes danced across this article which tried to make a point about women’s equality and then jumped into how feminism left men behind and subtly hinted at women’s sexual power over men and how men constantly sacrifice themselves for love and women. Yada yada yada.

One of the author’s sources was Warren Farrell, an ex-feminist who was also the father of the angry men’s movement.

Let’s be clear. This was not about whether women truly want equality. It was a veiled ode to men’s rights activists.

A Voice for Men launched a site purporting to track female murderers and rapists, as well as women who scheme against men. The site’s motto: “Fuck Their Shit Up.”

Warren Farrell is seen as the father of the men’s movement. The primary work that was sited, The Myth of Male Power, was the bible of the “angry man” rights movement. In its pages, it compared rape to “buyer’s remorse and eating potato chips.”

The book is used to justify discrimination against alleged female oppressors and is in part responsible for misogynistic groups like A Voice for Men.

Warren Farrell created controversy by saying incest can be a positive experience in his interview with Penthouse magazine.

“… [M]illions of people who are now refraining from touching, holding, and GENITALLY CARESSING [my emphasis] their children, when that is really part of a caring, loving expression, are repressing the sexuality of a lot of children and themselves.” — http://www.florida-family-lawyers.com/trishwilson/farrell2.html

If you follow the link, you will find the full article and a photocopy of the original 1977 issue of Penthouse Magazine.

Even though the author tries to pin this on feminism from the very start, she could not help but add this little gem, which explains that men’s problems predominantly arise from other men and not women.

The “patriarchy” then, doesn’t care about men either. As psychologist Roy Baumeister said, “What seems to have worked best for cultures is to play off the men against each other, competing for respect and other rewards that end up distributed very unequally.” Whereas women get rewarded for “being” men get rewarded for “doing” — “Men have to prove themselves by producing things the society values… That basic social insecurity of manhood is stressful for men… but that insecurity is useful and productive for the culture, the system.”

After I availed myself of this piece, my mind basically thought of this as a comparison.

This one is the best.

It’s a bitch-eat-dog world out there. Women control everything. It’s time for men to rebel! Let’s go! But wait! What are they doing now? Playing Fallout 4? Watching South Park? More Gamer-Gate videos?

I look outside my window and the world basically looks the same as it did before all this nonsense started. The revolution may be happening, but so far it only appears to be online.

Maybe I am reading too much into this, but the sloppy work and clear bias in that article just bugs me.

Edit: It would have probably been a better article if it just focused either on the original premise, “Do Women Really Want Equality,” or men’s issues. Instead, it tried to correlate the two together, as if they were somehow related, and that was where the bias (sloppy and stilted research) and potential vanity came in (Ipso facto, I’m a beautiful, attractive woman. So I speak for all women when I say we women have it so much better, and we flaunt our sexuality to oppress men).
