Planet of the Apps, from Stephen Colbert to Apple

Apple is making their first unscripted TV show, called planet of the Apps. The series, produced by Apple and Propagate, will follow a yet-to-be-cast group of tech entrepreneurs hoping to launch their careers with new apps.

On August 4, Apple announced that the executive producers will.i.am, Ben Silverman and Howard Owens are teaming up for an unscripted series about the world of apps and the talented people that drive its innovation. The series, produced by Apple and Propagate, will follow a yet-to-be-cast group of tech entrepreneurs hoping to launch their careers with new apps. They’re looking for developers with the vision to shape the future, solve real problems, and inspire change in our daily lives.

Planet of the Apps isn’t just a show; it’s a launch pad and accelerator for exceptional developers. Those accepted will have a chance to receive also mentorship from some of the world’s best experts in tech and entertainment. Funding up to $10m over the course of the season and marketing and promotion by being featured in the App Store at the end of the show. Participation in the show is limited to 100 of the world’s most talented app creators.

If this news wasn’t interesting enough, you should also know that superstars Gwyneth Paltrow and will.i.am, and Gary Vaynerchuk have joined the show.

“This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a series that lets us use our experiences to help app developers break through and create viable businesses that will impact peoples’ lives.” said Gwyneth Paltrow, actress and the founder of Goop.

Will.i.am also mentioned “As tech drives modern pop culture now more than ever, we are giving a platform for the next generation of culture-makers to shine. We are searching for entrepreneurs with the vision to shape the future, solve real problems and inspire change within our daily lives.”

With all its seriousness, I was still waiting for the news to end up as a prank as almost a year ago (Sep 17, 2015) I watched the first episode of the Planet of the Apps. Not by Apple but at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“There’s an app for everything, including your antisocial behavior and asking someone to marry you.” Stephen Colbert.

If this TV series is really going to happen, I believe they either have to cast Stephen Colbert or try to deal with the CBS’s lawyer, not to make have another law suite for Apple.
