Wu Jun doesn’t believe in shortcuts or compromises when it comes to the quality of reproductive health supplies. Mr. Wu is currently the senior vice-president at China Resource Pharmaceutical Group and, until recently, the former chairman of Zizhu Pharmaceutical (owned by China Resource Pharmaceutical Group).

“The recent prequalification of our mifepristone and misoprostol tablets is a reflection of our dedication and continuous investment in quality factories and products.”

At Zizhu, he led the initiative to obtain WHO prequalification of five products — the latest approved in November 2016. “Participating in the WHO prequalification process is a good way to show that our products are of the best quality,” says Mr. Wu. “The recent prequalification of our mifepristone and misoprostol tablets is a reflection of our dedication and continuous investment in quality factories and products.”

As chairman of Zizhu, Mr. Wu saw first-hand the role generic pharmaceutical companies play in increasing access of quality-assured products to people in low- and middle-income countries. He continues to challenge the standard of quality and distribution of these products. He looks to expand relationships with partners to help inform and build international market channels so more products get to those in need. One pathway is Zizhu’s Youth Campus Initiative to reach young people where they live, study and spend time online so they are educated about modern contraceptive products.

Zizhu’s prioritization of quality and the experience of the end-user is evident by their recent achievements in meeting the rigorous WHO product standards. Mr. Wu’s vision for continued growth and innovation is why Zizhu is becoming a global supplier for quality reproductive health products.

Good sexual and reproductive health depends on ensuring the quality of the RH supplies bought and distributed, and equally important, unequivocal confidence in the quality of these supplies.

The Coalition’s contributions to contraceptive commodity and reproductive health supply security are founded within a solid base of four strategic pillars — Quality, Equity, Choice and Availability. This series of profiles and interviews aims to celebrate Coalition members and partners who actually do the work in supporting our issues.
