Mexican Drug Cartels

In 2006, the United States announced a war against one of the most powerful and lucrative organizations in the world. This organization is damaging our brothers and sisters right in our own backyard and there is little we have done about it. Our government has tried to fight the war on drugs, but the Mexican drug cartel is so sly that they have always eluded our men in blue. Despite our efforts the cartel constantly finds new ways to import product into our country. 70% of all the narcotics found in our country comes from the Mexican drug cartels.
As if the war wasn’t hard enough already the Mexican cartel more than doubled their power when the joined with the Colombian Cartel. With the new introduction of this super power, the United States took the fight to the border. This came with little success and actually became an effort that made us public enemy number one. Now that the United States have tried to fight this super power they made it aware that the U.S. was their true enemy. Even though we were just trying to protect our country and keep harmful products out of our homes, the cartels are so powerful that they believe the world belongs to them. They import 90% of the cocaine that comes into the U.S. and make around $64 billion a year from imports alone. They sell kilograms of their product for around $2,200 and by the time it gets to the U.S. it skyrockets to about $98,000. These numbers just go to show how much it is costing us compared to how much it is really worth.
Our society is continuing to be crippled by the highly addictive products the cartels gain power from. We see problems in our country like poverty and world hunger and we always think about what can we do internally to solve these problems. We might need to consider that maybe these citizens who live in poverty suffer from financial issues because of the narcotics the cartels bring into our country that they have become so addicted to. This is just an example of one of the problems that the drug cartel could be creating for our country but the issues can be infinite.

With the profits in mind the cartels saw our country as a huge money maker. Since they saw our country was profitable they made sure that they would continue to be able to import narcotics into our country and keep their wealth growing. With the wealth they accumulated they were not only able to bribe lawmen on Mexico’s side but our side as well. Their wealth was so endless that bribing our officers weren’t even a dent in their pockets. However since our officers are only being paid around $40,000 a year a bribe from the cartel seems a lot more of a necessity for living than a choice. The cartels are so wealthy they bribe our officials $20,000, basically half their annual salary for just one transport and the question I would want to ask you is would you say no to the cartel?
