Announcing a New Project
A focus on the cinema of 1994
I call upon my fellow film writers on Medium to join me in a new venture. I am looking to gather reviews of all of the notable films released in 1994 and compile them all into a book, titled 1994 in Film.
Why 1994? Because it is often hailed as one of the greatest movie years, and we would like to put that claim to the test. There are over 5,000 films from that year that are logged on Letterboxd, and we’re aiming to cover at least 1,000 of them.
We're going to go through all the mainstream films, including every film released theatrically in the US, in addition to all of the indie cult classics and low-budget schlock, and we'll scour across the globe for the hidden treasures of world cinema.
Naturally, at least 75% of the films contained in this book would be trash, with only a fraction of actual good films. Such is the film market. There's way more bad films being made than good ones.
At the moment, three other writers on Medium have been collaborating with me on this project: Filmofile, Mark Schöeberg, and M. Elliot Gray. Our goal is to gather at least 50 writers for this project. In order to participate, all you have to do is watch and review at least one film from the year 1994!

The more writers we can gather for this project, the better. If we had 50 writers who each wrote 20 pieces for the book, then we would be able to reach our goal of 1,000 films. The more writers we have, the lighter the load will be for all involved!
At the moment, we are unsure of how we would go about publishing this book once we are done. I am envisioning a massive book to put on your coffee table, an encyclopedia of the films of 1994, collectively authored by the writers of Medium.
