Is writing on Medium worth it??? Source

It’s been more than eight months since I’ve started posting articles on Medium. Here’s my first published piece, back from the July of 2021.

And interestingly, this is my 100th story. Yay!

My 100th story! Screenshot by me.

Medium, for me, is love at first sight.

As far as I can remember, I was introduced to Medium through Google. I’ve got many answers to my questions through articles on Medium.

For a long time, I was unaware of the fact that it was a blogging platform. But when I started to explore I found it a perfect place for writing.

I downloaded its Android app on my tablet and I used to be on a constant lookout for free articles, as I didn’t have any membership then. I found the awesome Netflix Technology Blog this way. :)

Then I started to post occasionally on the platform. I wrote about the topics that caught my fancy: Books, Writing, Twitter, Medium, etc.

One of the major features that kept—and continue to keep—me glued to this platform is its “no ad” business model.

No matter you have a membership or not, you don’t see any ad. Ever. And I hope it remains this way.

Fast-forward to the present, I now try to write and post on Medium regularly. As I don’t want to do what I did in November and December.

Now to the main question:

Is Writing On Medium Worth It?

It may be not worth it for everyone but what I can say with surety is that it’s worth it for most of us.

If you’re a beginner writer, like me, who has no pre-built audience on any other platform, then MEDIUM is still THE BEST PLACE FOR YOU TO START.

And most of us—at least those who are reading this—fall into this category.

And trust me, there’s no better place, to the best of my knowledge, to host your blog. You don’t have to take care of anything but writing.

Medium’s built-in community and high Domain Authority ensure both high internal as well as external views.

To Sum It Up

  • Medium is an incredible place to start your online writing journey.

For beginners, it’s still a boon. It’s easy to set up; you can start writing and posting articles straight away after creating an account.

  • You don’t have to take care of anything but writing.

That’s a superpower if you’d ask me. No distraction-in-disguise stuff (as they are, most of the time) as hosting, site customisation, installing themes, running backups, scratching your head if the site is down, paying and renewing for the domain, et cetera, et cetera.

  • A $5 membership (in most of the markets) give you some really good stuff to read.

Okay, this is a bit off from the “writing” topic. But reading quality materials around a variety of subjects gives you clarity and thus helps you write better. In this way, you support your favourite writers as well. Win-win!

  • An easy way to monetize is a cherry on the top.

You can easily monetize your articles, all you need is a hundred followers and a published story. Easy. No ads, no headache, no BS, just undisturbed writing, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

  • You can build a whole business starting with writing on Medium.

Many have done it and many are doing it. Just explore and you’ll find enough of them. Tim Denning, Zulie Rane, Sinem Günel, Tom Kuegler are some of the most popular ones.

It does take time but yes, it’s possible.

To conclude, YES, BOYS AND GIRLS, IT’S WORTH GIVING IT A TRY. OR MAYBE TWO TRIES.

A huge shout-out to Susie Pinon, whom I love to read and in her publication, The Orange Journal, I love to publish. New writers, her articles are a treasure trove of resources on writing well and growing on Medium. This list is a good place to start.

If you’re not already a Medium member, join with her affiliate link to directly support her and enjoy the great library Medium has to offer.

just an effort to show support and appreciation for the editors who voluntarily run publications. it feels good. thanks for being there.

This article is a part of “A 15-Year-Old’s Take On” series. I’ll be turning 16 on March 16 and I just want to document how I feel or think about certain topics (at this age). And maybe just reflect on them in the future.

Stay tuned for the next story. Read all the stories in this series here. Until then, bye! 👋☺️❤
