Wasted Time and Yet It Was a Productive Day—Here’s What It Taught Me

Don’t take it too hard on yourself.

Just a quick reflection piece—personal musings.

So today was a kind of busy day.

Last night, I went to sleep around 2.30 am. (Yes, I’ve got a messed up schedule!)

And woke up at around 9.30, when a friend of mine called and said if he should come to my place or should we meet outside the theatre.

We planned to see a movie the last night. And here I am waking up when he’s asking me where should he come.

Fortunately, he’s 8 kilometres away. So that’d give me some time.

But what’s even funnier is that one of our other friends woke literally 5 mins. before leaving. He lives in the same PG as me.

We thought we had to go without him as he was not picking up any calls—phone on silent, and fast asleep, as he told us, and is obvious!

At the last minute, he picked up the call, opened the room and hurriedly got ready. By getting ready I mean: putting on a t-shirt and trousers, washing his face and setting his hair… and putting a chewing gum and deodorant to take care of the odour.

We went to see the much-hyped up movie RRR. It’s a South Indian movie made by the director of Bahubali. It’s basically an action, adventure, and historical drama.

And it was soooooooooooooooo good! Worth every penny we paid for the tickets.

It was a long movie. Upwards of 3 hours, I guess. And we didn’t realise we were sitting there for so long.

We went for the 10 am show because evening shows were houseful. And before we realised it was 2 pm already.

It was a nice stress buster: our classes have ended and we have to sit exams in a month’s time.

Though it looks like I wasted time but I think I didn’t. On the contrary, I got a lot more done, thanks to not sticking to the phone the whole day.

  • Last night, drafted an article titled “A Comprehensive List of Top Writer Tags in 2022 + Some Good Practices
  • After coming from the movies, and having lunch, slept for a crisp one hour (that’s not an accomplishment but I always wanted a short afternoon nap but had never—either it’s no nap or 3 hours one!
  • Completed the article, proofread it and submitted it to the publication.

It’s now published. Check it out here; you might find it useful :)

  • Read syllabus books, revised notes and practised some diagrams that are going to come in exams.
  • Read a couple of pages of Pride and Prejudice. I was gifted this book set of four classics: Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, The Great Gatsby, and The Picture of Dorian Gray.
  • I’m writing this second article and the time now is 10.58 pm; I think I’ll post it before midnight and get some more study done.
  • And and and… now some miscellaneous: took bath, washed clothes and didn’t skip a meal too (I don’t do the last one often though.)

You see, a day disguised as a mix of bad schedules, movies, and fun time turned out to be productive. I myself didn’t expect that. But hey, I’m not complaining!

This experience taught me that sometimes what’s obvious is not the best. It’s quite opposite.

As in this case, sitting idly the whole day in the room when we’ve no classes is not a better choice than going out and getting your mood refreshed. And then doing things with more enthusiasm.

That’s all for this article, guys. It’s 11.30 sharp and I’m hitting Publish. See you soon. Bye! 👋❤️
