Recently, the iTwin Platform released a new tool for creating and managing Test iTwinsMy iTwins. My iTwins is the successor to the My iModels page and provides tools for developing on the iTwin Platform.

Features

  • Access developer tools (iModel Console/Schema Explorer/Viewer/more to come) all in one place.
  • Create Test iTwins and iModels.
  • Clone official sample iModels (such as Metrostation, Stadium, etc.).
  • Create empty iModels and synchronize data from local design files.
  • Create multiple iModels in the same Test iTwin.
  • Use synchronization API to sync and re-sync Test iModels.
  • Access (read-only) production iTwins.

What the heck is a “Test iTwin”?

Test iTwins are iTwins created in the My iTwins application. They are intended to be used only for testing and developing on the iTwin Platform and should not be used in a production workflow. They are not subject to the same data privacy, security policies, and access controls that apply to production iTwins. Also, they expire after 90 days if not renewed. Don’t worry you will receive emails warning about pending deletions.

Oh, and they are free to create! All you need is a trial subscription.

Where did all my iModels go?

They should still appear in My iTwins. Use the filter and select Test. Test iTwins are also denoted with a teal TEST badge.

How can I edit Test iTwins?

In the iTwin grid, select the dropdown menu on a tile. This lists the available actions for the iTwin — Edit, Manage Participants, Delete, and Refresh.

How can I edit Test iModels?

When you click an iTwin, you see a list of iModels. In the iModel grid, select the dropdown menu on a tile. This lists the available actions for the iModel — Copy IDs, Edit, Delete, and open the iModel in a developer tool.

Why are production iTwins read-only?

My iTwins is not intended for managing production iTwins, but they can still be viewed.

Happy iTwinning!
