At this year’s South By South West conference, JAAK CEO Vaughn McKenzie-Landell took part in an illuminating panel discussing the current hurdles and roadblocks facing those building the new generation of music services and experiences.

For 2019, we’re moving the conversation along. We’ve proposed three panels, one each for the Music, Film and Interactive threads, and we’d love your votes to get us there. Read on for info about each panel, or skip to the end for links to vote. Choose your favourite, or we’d love it if you voted for all three!

Music — Licensing That Works
Licensing in today’s world is problematic. Music copyright is inherently complex and made worse by fragmentation, unknowns, inefficiencies and competing interests. Now, new technologies and current efforts to collaborate could offer a path forward to designing a licensing framework fit for the 21st century. Panelists from a cross section of the music industry will debate the path forward, assess obstacles, the potential gains and what’s required to get there.

Film — Coopetition: Blockchain Rallies the AV Industry
Blockchain technology is being applied to problems around fragmented rights and consensus in the creative sectors, building a blueprint for future best practice. These working methodologies are now poised to offer the AV industry improved operational efficiency and increased incremental revenues. After a successful music industry pilot, the team at JAAK have been working with a wide range of AV partners on a blockchain trial; first identifying mutual pain points in rights management, storage, licensing, distribution, and then utilising distributed ledger technology to resolve them.

Interactive — Enabling the Next Era of Content
Future interactive experiences will be spontaneous and immersive, contain a seamless mix of content types, across a variety of reality formats. However, building this in a sustainable environment will require a wide reaching and connected foundation on which rights information can flow. Experts at the intersection of technology and content will discuss the potential for future content experiences. Hear about the challenges of licensing content into interactive applications today, and how that may map onto future manifestations. Learn about potential solutions, such as empowering peer2peer communication between creators and developers, reducing the friction in licensing, and the potential for a blockchain enabled holistic network of content rights.
