6:00AM — Alarm goes off

6:15AM — Work out

7:00AM — Shower and get dressed

7:45AM — Get to work

8:00AM — 12:00PM: SIT AT YOUR DESK

12:00PM — Eat lunch

1:00–5:00PM: SIT AT YOUR DESK

I often hear people complain after they make the seven hour drive from Lincoln to Denver. They say that sitting for that long makes their backs and necks stiff. They feel tired and drained. They feel like their whole day is wasted.

Ever since I started doing yoga, I tend to giggle at people who complain about this. I will politely say, “Do you realize that you usually sit for 7–8 hours each day at your job?” You could say that we make the long drive to Denver from Lincoln EVERY DAY at work.

The American work culture promotes a lot of sitting, looking at a screen and drinking too much coffee. We rarely give our bodies a good stretch. We rarely give our minds time to settle down.

When we deprive our bodies and minds like this, we can’t function to our highest potential. At an advertising agency you are expected to perform at your best. Everyone that walks through the office doors must be ready to give 100 percent, have a positive attitude and be willing to work hard.

Yoga is the simple answer to a culture of job fatigue. Taking a few quick breaks in the middle of the work day to stretch, breath and be quiet can make a world of a difference. Watch out, the side affects of yoga include more alertness, energy and overall happiness.

Never tried yoga or meditation? Here are some easy ways to add it into your daily work schedule:

  1. Apps

2. Youtube Videos

3. Bring in a local yoga instructor and do a yoga class with your co-workers!
