Fixing Glitches in VMware vSphere Client for Windows 10 (8 & 8.1 too)

If we use the older versions of VMware vSphere Client on Windows 10 (or 8–8.1), you are bound to run into some display problems with thw VMConsole. The console displays only a part of what it must be and the rest is covered by black colored bars. It would look something like below…

As I was investigating what might have led to this, I thought it would be the resolution settings of the guest OS or some display setting of the host OS, I realized it wasn’t specific to my system since every system in my team suffered the same issue. Apparently it was something to do with the “DPI virtualization” feature(of Windows 10, 8.1 & 8). This makes text/icons and other contents within old software look blurred on comparison to other applications.

Text blurred in vSphere but not in PuTTY

In-order to disable this feature first open file location of vSphere by right clicking the start menu entry

Once that’s done, right click the shortcut and click on properties. Here select on the Compatibility tab and select the checkbox “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and set it to a version of Windows below 8.

Also select the checkbox to “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings”. Apply and click on OK.

As you can see below this fixes the problem to quite an extent. There could be weird glitches where the text might be clear but might be displaced oddly. But the VM console works as it should be.

Before V/S after disabling display scaling on high DPI setting
The VMConsole now displays content properly
