Jaha Media’s “‪#‎StreetOP‬ :: The ‪#‎Faces‬ & ‪#‎Words‬ Of The ‪#‎Sudanese‬‪#‎AsylumSeekers‬/ ‪#‎Refugees‬ ‪#‎Deported‬ From ‪#‎Jordan‬” is a compilation of photos and interviews that were taken during a one month long “sit in” protest in the parking lot of UNHCR (United Nations High Commission For Refugees) Amman, Jordan office that was organized and attended by over 950+ ‪#‎Darfuri‬ #Sudanese refugees/asylum seekers. The ‪#‎protestors‬ claimed that there was severe and dire need within their community that was not being met.

It was this very protest that eventually led to the protestors being forcefully taken from the UNHCR property and deported back to Sudan, back to the government that they had fled. Back to the government that ICC (‪#‎InternationalCriminalCourt‬) has called to be tried for the war crimes it has committed against the residents of Sudan’s ‪#‎Darfur‬ region. After some were able to escape deportation, it was officially confirmed by UNHCR staff that close to 600 asylum seekers/refugees (men, women, and children) had officially been deported back to ‪#‎Khartoum‬. After arriving in Khartoum a high majority of those deported were taken to political prisons and detention centers while others were released but all forms of documentation (Refugee papers, passports, all forms of identification) we confiscated from them.

Each day we’ll be sharing a photo and quote from one of those who was deported.

This photo series shares with you the faces, stories, the voices of some of those who were deported.

Though Sudanese authorities continue to try to silence the stories and narratives of Darfuri’s both within and outside it’s borders…, the stories of #Darfur, its people, and what they’ve experienced must be told, seriously discussed, and in doing so should instigate an ‪#‎outcry‬ on behalf of the many men, women, and children who lives, ‪#‎rights‬, and ‪#‎dignity‬ have continually been ‪#‎humiliated‬ by both the ‪#‎oppressive‬ Bashir regime and by‪#‎indifference‬ of the international community. Help us spread the word about what happened in Amman this December, help us, in any way you can, attempt to share the voice for a population who is desperate for the world to listen.
