The modern smartphone is an incredible tool that most people today cannot live without. Not only can it make and take phone calls, you can text, play games, watch video, access social media, use the internet, shop, and so much more. It could be considered as the swiss-army knife of technology. Many people use all of these features to their advantages. As technology grows, it’s been increasingly easier to do countless things right from your phone. However, there are many people that don’t take those privileges into account. Some people can put all their time into one measly thing.

Many people use only one or two apps far more than any other apps combined. Some apps can be that addictive. YouTube, for example, is a video streaming site where videos on nearly every topic imaginable are covered. You can watch a video on how to make the perfect cake to documented sightings of Bigfoot in about 2 clicks. The variety is endless. Therefore, a person’s attention can be caught in a loop. Someone can spend around 25 hours a week just looking through recommended videos. On the other hand, you have Twitter. A social media platform where you can see people’s thoughts on things and where you can share your own thoughts. This is another platform people can get sucked into the same way YouTube does. People go farther down the eternal rabbit hole. That same person can spend about 18 hours on that app and check it around 542 times a week. To put into perspective how much screen time these two apps can take for someone, the three next most used apps on someone’s phone can be much less comparatively. Netflix, a movie streaming service, only gets 2 hours a week. Chrome, a web browser, only gets around 1 and a half ours a week. Music tiles 2, a rhythm game, could barely get an hour in a week. It’s really telling how much of a majority is at play here.

We see how much a person’s phone screen time can be overrun by two addictive apps. When you have a tool that can be used to do almost anything, it’s really fascinating to see how one of two apps can gather a person’s entire attention span. While this may not be the case for a good number of people, it’s still shows how addicted many people can get.
