Currently, many people don’t know or have never heard about the Girl Guides Movement (Bandeirante Movement in Brasil), which has the same ideals as the Scout Movement. Girls Guides came in 1907, when girls could not yet be scouts, organized by Agnes Baden-Powell, sister of Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. In Brazil, the association dedicated to girls arrived in 1919 and today is open to men and women.

At JamCam, the Bandeirante Movement is present with one of the bases of the Inter-American Village. The booth is promoted by the Jeronymas project, of body trust, gender equality and advocacy developed in partnership with the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), Dove Self-esteem Project and the Bandeirante Movement.

Marina Florindo, a Girl Guide for fifteen years and one of the organizers of the base at the event, tells how it is to share this experience with young people: “We have games, quizz, history and discussions. Although not very active physically, young people are participating more in the discussions. Themes like sexism always generate big debates with both men and women”.

For the 16 year old Leticia Wittmann, from the Araquã 281 Scout Group (RS — Brasil), the base clarified doubts about Bandeirantismo. “The proposed debates were good. I could talk about current issues involving women and find out that men can also participate as Girl Scouts, things I didn’t know. ”

Some young people and Girl Scout volunteers from the states of Sao Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul also came as participants to JamCam.
