The songs and dances of the American countries were the main attractions of the Folklore Festival, JamCam 2020’s second-to-last day night program. The festival closed the Inter-American Day, a program for cultural exchange between the countries that make up our continent.

There were 17 presentations, which showed all the diversity of American cultures. The delegations invested heavily in costumes and choreography and composed a rich panel — lively and colorful — of American traditions. Cumbia, salsa and meringue were some of the spices of this broth.

A scout of the Aldebarã Scout Group, Sofia Jacob, 13, enjoyed the presentation by the Paraguayan delegation: “The music was very lively and contagious. I also liked the clothes, which were very beautiful and well made.” Aldebarã is from Espírito Santo do Pinhal, in the interior of São Paulo.

The US performance was one of the highest rated by the scouts attending the festival. They took to the JamCam stage a country music performance whose choreography was very well performed. “We Brazilians already know something about country music, so it helps to identify with that kind of song. And they also danced all right, they were very well in sync, ” said João Victor Luz, 16, of the Paineiras Group of São Paulo.

His groupmate Arthur Oliveira, 15, however, had another opinion: he preferred the presentation by the delegation from Mexico. “They performed Un Poco Loco, which is the song for that movie ‘Coco’.

The coordinator of the Folklore Festival, Ariadne Nobato, positively evaluated the event. “Was very good. The presentations ended the Inter-American Day with great joy, giving young people the opportunity to learn a little more about each other’s culture,” he said.

Ariadne also recalled that the presentations involved a large and extensive previous work, from clothing making to choreography essays. “The beauty of such an event lies behind the scenes, in the time the children spent rehearsing, in the sweat they spilled, in the pride that emanated from each other in representing their people. All of these children worked very hard to make a wonderful presentation,” said the coordinator.
