Antique Russian Cigar Box — a perfect receptacle for childhood memories

Ian jumped out of bed the morning after his debate with his friends, zinging with energy knowing they were with him. He smiled remembering Dima’s drunken affection on the phone. Even if vodka had fueled his sexy declarations, well, in vino veritas.

He scooped coffee into the machine and dumped enough water into the carafe for two mugs. Mark never got up until the last minute. He’d appreciate the java charge.

He grabbed his own mug as soon as it was ready and hit the stairs, grinning broadly as he let gravity pull him faster and faster, feet flying. By the time he reached the landing, he was almost at a run. He pivoted and ducked into the kneipe to pick up a bag of brötchen rolls for the S&W center.

While he waited, inhaling steamy yeast and coffee, he wondered how he and Mark had grown so close. His thoughts pulled him back to the day they met.

Ian trudged through washcloth-thick Texas air and lugged his Russian books up to the air-conditioned day room. Empty. Good. His head hurt from hours of intense classes, and all he wanted to do was switch on MTV and zone out before dinner and homework. He dropped his books and loosened his tie before sprawling in a plush chair.
