Recently, a company called AltspaceVR was acquired by Microsoft. This is a really cool company, that you should really check out.

So what is AltspaceVR?

AltspaceVR is a social platform for virtual reality. If you have a Daydream by Google, Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, or just any old Mac or PC, you can join the virtual world. Inside of it, there are multiple areas, where strangers can just put their microphone on, and talk.

On Altspace, you can hold VR weddings, birthday parties, karaoke nights, meetups, conferences, anything you want to hold!

I decided to check Altspace out to see what it was all about!

On Altspace, there are a ton of rooms you can create and join. In each room you could play minigames like chess, Holograms Against Humanity (a version of Cards Against Humanity), Dungeons & Dragons, Disc Golf, and way more!

Every couple hours, there would be a special event, held by some really cool people. I decided to attend the HoloDevelopers Meetup #2. The event led by Preston McCauley (a guest speaker), was an open Q&A session for development in platforms like the HoloLens by Microsoft.

It was a super unique experience, as everyone was talking, shooting questions, and being all-around super cool.

Everyone at the end of the event, taking a group picture.

Since this was in VR, people could express themselves in so many ways. There is a spacial sound element in Altspace VR, so you could hear the sound at different volumes according to where the speaker was.

The one super interesting part about this whole thing, was that I discovered that there was a Developer Program with Altspace VR. This meant that anyone with the tools and skills could create something in VR, and share it with the whole community!

Overall, I was super satisfied with everything Altspace had to offer. If you want to check them out, you can check them out at their website here.
