How to make WhatsApp work for media
Join us for a panel discussion with people who have been making WhatsApp work for media
Jamlab, in partnership with the Civic Tech Innovation Network, will be hosting a panel discussion on ways to make WhatsApp work for media.
WhatsApp is the most widely used app in South Africa but the least used channel by South African media. There are challenges in the way WhatsApp works that makes using it as a media platform difficult. In this jamlab breakfast we are bringing together some of the people who have been making this platform work and are trying to address the mis-information that also flows on it.
Our panel includes:
- Koketso Moeti, founding executive director at Amandla.mobi! — the organisation has found creative uses of technology to amplify the work of those being silenced and ignored.
- Phillip de Wet, associate editor at Business Insider South Africa — the publication publishes a a daily WhatsApp newsletter.
- Kate Wilkinson, acting deputy chief editor at Africa Check — the organisation started a weekly radio programme on misinformation on WhatsApp.
When: Wednesday, 16 July 2019
Where: Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct, 41 Juta Street, Braamfontein
