Jamlab, together with the Civic Tech Innovation Network and various partners, will be hosting a series of events this October on the influential role the civic has played in media to influence public opinion & voice, and shape policy & governance in African cities. The events are under the big banner of a larger virtual month-long Urban Festival 2020.

The Empowering the Civic edition of Urban Festival is providing a platform to explore the potential of civic-tech to overcome current challenges and barriers and leap forward into new ways of civic engagement and mobilisation for urban development. Through this, it will aim to connect different parts of society, foster collaboration and seek solutions.

The “Urban JAM Café” series will be weekly “conversational” virtual sessions at the Urban Festival 2020 on the influential role the civic has played in media to influence public opinion & voice, and shape policy & governance in African cities. The series is organised by the Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) in partnership with Jamlab Meetup’s Reimagining Journalism Series, and with support from KAS Strong Cities and Civicus.

The series has been framed in relation to four conceptual areas:

i. Reimagining public opinion and satire
ii. Reimagining new narratives
iii. Reimagining new media and voices
iv. Reimagining policy and governance

Reserve your seat here for all these sessions.

The main elements of the month-long Urban Festival 2020 will be digital exhibitions, weekly webinars and workshops, curated content, masterclasses and more.
