One World Media Fellowship
The One World Media Fellowship seeks aspiring journalists and filmmakers who are interested in reporting on stories from the global south. The fellowship particularly encourages submissions from underrepresented groups and is open to people around the world. Successful applicants will receive a £1,000 production grant, career mentorship, and an executive producer for your project among other opportunities. Google News Initiative Innovation Challenge
Google has launched its second innovation in Africa and the Middle East as it continues to show support for the news media industry worldwide. The call is open to “projects that increase reader engagement and explore new business models to build a stronger future for journalism”. Wiki Loves Africa 2021
The annual Wiki Loves Africa contest is aimed at anyone across Africa that can contribute health and wellness-related media for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. AIJC 2021 Five Cities Conference: Call for co-hosting partners
The African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) has been hosted since 2005 at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. It has grown to become the biggest annual gathering of working journalists on the continent, a meeting place for investigative reporters and a showcase of the best work from the continent.
To make the most out of pandemic conditions, they are planning AIJC2021 as a hybrid conference with small, safe, simultaneous gatherings in five African cities, live-streamed to the rest of the continent. And they seek partners in each region of Africa (other than Southern Africa, where we are based) to co-host these meetings. Find more info here.

Lorenzo Natali Media Prize
The Lorenzo Natali Media Prize was launched in 1992 to honour courage in journalism. It rewards the excellence of journalists reporting about the stories that matter on the topics of inequality, poverty eradication, sustainable development, environment, biodiversity, climate action, digital, jobs and employment, education and skills development, migration, healthcare, and peace, democracy and human rights. Pulitzer Centre Persephone Miel Fellowship 2021 for International Journalists
The Persephone Miel fellowships are open to all journalists, writers, photographers, radio producers or filmmakers, staff journalists as well as freelancers and media professionals outside the U.S. who are seeking to report from their home country. Gender Justice Reporting Initiative
The International Women’s Media Foundation’s (IWMF) reporting initiative will enhance coverage of gender issues in South Africa and Uganda. In 2021, the IWMF will select 30+ journalists in South Africa and Uganda to participate in this program. Our fellows will complete a six-month, virtual training course, which includes physical and digital security workshops, and will have the opportunity to receive reporting grants and mentoring from experienced editors.

Rainforest Journalism Fund
The Pulitzer Center invites journalists working on projects related to tropical rainforests to submit a proposal to the Rainforest Journalism Fund. The Pulitzer Center will pay for costs associated with reporting projects on tropical rainforests, with an emphasis on issues that have gone unreported or under-reported in the local media. Rapid Response Fund
The Rapid Response Fund aims to facilitate the digital emergency response community to resolve threats in a timely and comprehensive manner for individuals, communities, and organizations whose free expression has recently been repressed. To resolve digital emergencies, OTF offers both direct financial support as well as technical services from trusted partners to high-risk people and organizations, such as bloggers, cyber activists, journalists, and human rights defenders.
