Wits Justice Project | Criminal Justice Reporting grants 2020

The Wits Justice Project (WJP) is inviting journalists to submit proposals for reporting grants of up to ZAR25 000 for in-depth investigations focused on criminal justice and related issues. Journalists are encouraged to submit quality, original proposals to highlight cases that point to broader systemic issues within the criminal justice system. The suggested areas of focus include: Wrongful convictions and exonerations; overcrowding in detention facilities; criminal justice legislation (e.g. sentencing and bail laws); and Torture and abuse of inmates.

Call for Applications: Media and Journalism Days in Africa 2020

The Media and Journalism Days in Africa is a project led by Africa 21 and its partners aimed at annually convening journalists from the African continent, alongside experts from international Geneva and around the world, to review, exchange and debate on a selected theme related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The event will strengthen the skills of journalists invited on this topic, offering participating journalists the opportunity to share their realities with the public and international experts.

Uganda National Journalism Awards 2020

The Uganda National Journalism Awards 2020 are open to all professional journalists working in print, television, radio and online news platforms in Uganda for stories published or broadcast between 1 January and 31 December 2019.

Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism

The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund (KSMF) is now accepting submissions for its 2020 awards in international journalism. The fund aims to support freelancers and local reporters whose work is often poorly paid, mostly unsung and all too often fraught with danger. The 19th annual call for awards is now split into three categories: Local reporter, freelancer and news fixer. Each award is for $5,000 and will be presented at a prestigious ceremony in London in late September 2020.

Money Trail Grants

In Money Trail, Journalismfund.eu offers working grants for mixed teams of African, Asian and European journalists to investigate cross-border illicit financial flows, tax abuse and corruption in Africa, Asia and Europe. Grants are awarded to journalists solely by Journalismfund.eu.
