Janne: A magical life

Between the 7th and 25th of December of 2020, Janne and I decided to watch a series of sci-fi movies that we were a fan of. Marvel movies had been a permanent stay in our lives since Iron Man was released in 2008. The threading story is about super heroes, those special beings capable of extraordinary feats.

We had watched some of those movies as soon as they were in the cinema. It was always a happy time for us. We would pick a wine and some nachos and just swim into the story. There was a total of 23 movies at that time. We watched them in 19 days.

After Janne died, it was difficult to watch movies, particularly new Marvel films. In October, I decided to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, a movie Janne didn’t get to see. Guardians was one of her favorite stories.

One of the characters is a raccoon called Rocket that has gained human consciousness after experiments were performed on him. In this particular movie, there is a friend of him (Lylla the Otter) who also has suffered through these experiments and then dies. There is one scene that was heart-piercing for me. Rocket is about to die and sees Lylla in the afterlife. Even though he wants to stay with her, he returns as his friends need him (if only).

A few days ago I remembered something my brother said about superheroes. He said that they were not born like that. There has to be a difficult event in their life to transform their potential into superpowers. In Marvel stories, this difficulty usually involves the death of someone dear.

The main hero of the Guardians’ story is Peter Quill or Star-Lord. He has great taste in music inherited from his mother. In the last scenes, another plot breaks me. I didn’t remember that Star-Lord’s mother had died of cancer when he was 8.

This story is not about Janne or about me, but about our legacy. I’ve been watching Trevor and Daniel and can say that they are stronger than ever. They keep missing Janne, but they keep pushing through. I’m proud of them. Perhaps, they will grow into the superheroes this world needs. Just watch.
