#216 Fountains
There is a primordial attraction towards fountains. I am not sure if it’s only us, but we can’t just go by one of them without making a stop to see it, touch it, figure out how it works. Fountains are life.
There is a neighborhood in Tallinn called Kadriorg where there is a tiny fountain (everything in Estonia seems small to me). First, we brought Trevor and then we included Daniel. They would spend hours touching the water and looking at the water spout. Janne and I knew that we could relax there. We loved that place.
Fountains are a symbol of life. Water comes out, lives for a bit of time and then it’s flushed out. It might be a long or a short time, but it will go away anyway. You gotta play with that water while there is a chance.
When we made a trip to Hamburg in 2017, Janne and the boys were mesmerized by a fountain. I don’t remember the reason, but they are just watching it as if in trance. I’m glad I have a photo of that. I’m also glad that I have a photo I made of her right after that when we boarded the U-Bahn in Hamburg. How much I miss Janne.
Fountains might also be a sign of renewal. Even if water will eventually come out, there is always new water coming in. In modern fountains, that water might even be recycled (reincarnation all the way). That new water feels fresh, cold, alive, like an artificial spring.
We are in Antigua Guatemala now. There are so many beautiful artificial springs here. We are staying in a hotel where the fountain was made into a beautiful pool (Janne would have loved it as Daniel and I agree). We stopped by a nearby place that has so many water spouts and fountains, that I need to come back later as the boys demand it.
I have a new friend. I have been watching him from afar admiring his photography work for a while (he takes amazing portraits of strangers). On a whim, I messaged him as I noticed a photo he took in Antigua Guatemala (I feel it’s my call for renewal). It turns out that we coincided for just a few hours. We agreed to meet via a chat and then a call. Where shall we meet?
Let’s meet by the fountain.
