Hello, today I would like to introduce one of the popular casual dining cultures in Japan, called “family restaurants”. The Japanese call it “Fami-Res” for short. There are dozens of different brands throughout Japan, but one that is widely spread and I often use is a restaurant called “Denny’s”.

If you are Japanese, you probably know it. Although it is named a family restaurant, in reality, it has become a casual restaurant that anyone can use, including individuals and students eating with friends, and the name “family” has become just a name. However, it is definitely a casual restaurant that is easy for families to use.

Some stores have a lot of booth seats, and I often work in the restaurant after having breakfast. Furthermore, some seats have electrical outlets prepared. In Japan, cafes have small tables, and honestly, there are few suitable places for working. In fact, this family restaurant is ideal for working.

I often use it during the morning time, and a set meal including rice, miso soup, salad, tofu, bacon, and eggs is offered for about $5, which is reasonable.

Another attractive feature is that the menu is abundant despite being a casual restaurant. The menu changes depending on the time of day, such as morning, lunch, and dinner, but each time period has a well-stocked selection of both Japanese and Western food.

In addition, there are limited-time menus that change with the seasons, such as dishes using ingredients available in spring or summer. Recently, I found there was a parfait using a brand of strawberry called “Amaou” in the limited-time menu that changes with the seasons, and went to try it.

The strawberries were delicious. It was also good that there were two types of ice cream included. I ordered a small size, and it was just the right amount, so I didn’t eat too much.

I am looking forward to seeing what kind of limited-time menu will be available in the summer.
