I cannot talk more positively about the Ryokan Sawanoya. As first time visitors to Japan, it was wonderful. The room was lovely, the small hot bath was relaxing and most importantly the staff were wonderful, friendly and went out of their way to help. As we left for our next stay, they all came outside and waved goodbye. It melted my heart.
A wonderful experience. I wish we could have stayed longer. After long days exploring Tokyo, it was wonderful to come home to a peaceful, relaxing space for the night. The Onsens ( baths ) were soothing relief after a long day of exploring.
The Sawa family were incredibly welcoming, it truly felt like home.
The tatami mats we amazingly comfortable. We are looking at purchasing some for our home here in Australia. We will certainly be back they the Sawanoya Ryokan. I can not recommend it highly enough. thank you Sawa family

It is located in an attractive area in Tokyo. Ueno, the center of Tokyo, is known as Shitamachi where the traditional folksy life style and quiet atmosphere are still preserved. And easy access to Ueno Park with some major museums (Tokyo National Museum, The National Museum of Western Art and National Museum of Nature and Science) and the Ueno zoo.
