During summer, Fireworks/Summer festivals are taking places everywhere in Japan. It’s one of summer traditional customs here in japan. At the festival, there are numbers of stalls called “Demise” or “Yatai” selling food and drinks which you can enjoy while walking around. I would like to introduce some of things you can enjoy at summer festival stalls and in addition, put on traditional summer wear “Yukata” to feel even more of traditional Japanese summer.

Takoyaki

Ball shaped snack made with flour base batter filled with diced octopus. Takoyaki is the most popular street food in Japan!

Yakisoba

Fried noodles “Yakisoba” is one of the nation’s favourite food and often sold at food stalls.

Grilled Corn on the cob

One of the significant summer snack. Soya sauce coated corn on the cobs are sold freshly grilled and fascinates passers-by with its smell.

Choco Banana

Chocolate coated banana sticks are kids' favourite sweets at festivals. Chocolate X Banana.. you know how it taste good.. :-)

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy “Wata-Ame” is fluffy sugar candy which is often sold in cute character printed bag in Japan.

At summer festivals, stalls are not only to sell food and bevarege but there are many of them to enjoy activities and games!

Goldfish scooping

Japanese traditional game, scooping goldfish with a special scooper called “Poi” which is extremely thin papered and it’s really hard to scoop even one.

Shooting booth

Shooting booth "Shateki" is played with a fake gun loaded with a cork and you will be rewarded with the items you hit or knock down.

Superball Scooping

Colourful super balls floating on a pool. Same way to play goldfish scooping but this one is much easier!

Let’s enjoy the food and games at summer festivals in Japan! :-)
