Do you backup your contents on Medium?
Just a blog
I am the person who never makes a backup of my online posts, but now I am thinking about backing up the things I posted on Medium.
I write a lot. I write blogs which are like journals, short stories which I like to call 'essays’, poems, fiction stories. I want to backup them up just in case they are lost somehow.
I have been writing — mainly blogging — online for years, and normally I don’t back up my stories. I don't care much about my blog posts because I can re-write from scratch, even if they have disappeared; writing is not a painful job, it’s my pleasure. If for some reason I had to write the stories again I would be able to write them even better.
However, I don’t think that it is the same for my creative writing. I write poems and short stories, fiction stories, and in those pieces a small letter is critical sometimes.
When I write a piece of poetry or Haiku, I focus on every single word. Each of them is meaningful and you don’t want to replace it.
Some of my creative writing has been backed up, such as fiction stories that I wrote on Google document as a draft. Or, some articles about Haiku poetry are copied on Word document because I am planning to self-publish on Amazon after editing and revising them.
I think I should start backing them up now. It will be time-consuming work since I have already written a lot. Poetry and short stories have a higher priority.
