How can I increase Japanese users on Medium?
I want to read more articles in Japanese!
I love writing on this platform, Medium. I also like reading here, but unfortunately, there are not many Japanese posts on Medium and I find it a little difficult to find Japanese articles. I don’t think the tag which means “Japanese” in Japanese works very well for some reason.
I want more Japanese writers to join this platform and write more Japanese articles so that I can enjoy reading more! That’s why I have just created a publication specifying Japanese writings.
I believe that there used to be a few Japanese people writing here in Japanese before 2017 when “Medium Japan” was functioned. However, after that the number of active Japanese writers decreased. The more writers left the platform, the fewer good posts there were left, then, readers were less interested. The fewer people read, the fewer people wrote. I think that was what happened to Japanese users.
It is a shame, because in my opinion Medium is a helpful platform for both readers who want to read high-quality articles without advertising and writers who want to make a living as a writer.
I am Japanese, was born in Japan, so Japanese is my mother tongue. That’s why reading in Japanese is much much easier than reading in English. So, I am also the one who wants to read in Japanese.
I started wondering whether there is any way that I can bring Japanese writers back to this platform. If I can, I will happily write more in Japanese, not only in English. Writing in English is as exciting as writing in Japanese for me though.
And then I got an idea to create a publication. It is the place where Japanese writers put their posts written in Japanese and where the readers who want to read Japanese articles can easily find what they want to read.
I hope it will work, but honestly I am not sure, because I know some Japanese people are not very enthusiastic about connecting to each other.
Anyway, this is one of my experiments. I don’t mind even if I need some time to grow my publication. At least I found one Japanese writer here already — it’s Me!
