DORAEMON: Main Characters and its Birth Story
DORAEMON — light blue large round head with a 4-D pocket, is a cultural icon of modern Japan. All Japanese kids were fascinated about Doraemon. Waiting for the next manga, next tv program with full of anticipation what new gadget they could see. How Fujiko F. Fujio created this amusing character and concept in the first place?
DORAEMON: Main Characters
Doraemon first began as a manga, then onto animation, films and now you can see him on a wide variety of products. Fujiko. F. Fujio created this ever popular cat-shaped robot back in the 1970s. Doraemon came from the 22nd century to support Nobita, they develop friendship and chose to stay together even after Doraemon achieved his assignment. The story develops basically around Nobita’s difficult situation, which he asked himself and Nobita asks Doraemon to help him by secret gadgets, handles the situation somehow, but Nobita has to pay the price in the end.
He’s the title character but he’s just there for the sake of helping Nobita and that’s his entire purpose in the story most of the time. He is a cat-like robot created by the Matsushiba robot company and is sent back in time by Sewashi to aid Nobita.
He possesses a fourth-dimensional pocket from which he can acquire various kinds of futuristic tools, gadgets, and playthings from a future department store. He’s usually endlessly patient and tries to be helpful, but when Nobita goes too far, he won’t hesitate to punish him.
Doraemon is a big eater and hopelessly in love with Dorayaki and sleeps in Nobita’s oshi-ire (Japanese closet). Don’t call him a tanuki (raccoon) or anything that’s not a cat which would definitely hurt his pride.

Nobita is a fourth grader and the only child to his parents. Nobita’s character flaws are endless: he is lazy, uncoordinated, dim-witted, frail, plain-looking, unlucky, and bad at sports.
The protagonist of the story, a young, loser boy who is always at an end of school bully, jealousy, or his own’s selfishness, and always relies on Doraemon’s gadget as his solution to a problem rather than improving himself. However, he is notably more kind and heroic than the rest of the gang when the situation calls for it.
Beaten by Gian, scolded by the teacher and by his mother, bitten by a dog and fell into a ditch. An ordinary day of Nobita. What’s good about him is his kindness, that’s the reason why Doraemon had befriended him despite all the flaws he has.

Shizuka-chan, the local love interest, who is popular among every boy in town starting with Nobita.
She’s a soft-spoken, nature loving, and a caring girly girl who addresses the failure hero Nobita with honorifics. Her true passions are sweet potatoes and the violin, in which her playing is as atrocious as Jai-an’s singing.
She seems to spend much of her free time bathing. And almost every time she gets in the bath, Nobita ends up accidentally walking in thanks to Doraemon’s gadgets.
Takeshi Goda aka Jai-an
Angry Jai-an (http://yumeman.up.n.seesaa.net)
Takeshi is better-known for his nickname Jai-an (Giant) for his brawn and tendency to get things by his ways. The local big bully, he acts as the big guy of the gang who we always have one in every classroom. His victims are every boy in his neighborhood, though he picks on Nobita the most.
He also frequently steals other children’s toys and books under the pretext of borrowing them, unless the toy is damaged. However, he does not hesitate to help Nobita and his friends when they are in real trouble.
The only person Jai-an is truly afraid of is his mother. Like Nobita, he is a more honorable person when the situation calls for it. Yet his singing ability is really bad it can damage listener’s ears who unfairly forced listening to it.
Suneo is a son of a rich family, who never runs short of showing off his wealth. He is often seen with Jai-an, serving as his lackey while they bully Nobita together. Though rich and tricky, he is physically very short and is a coward.
Lying is second nature to Suneo. He literally cannot go a day without lying about something, which bites him in the butt when he was given a device that makes all his lies true.
He has an extensive knowledge of science and is a talented artist and designer. And a running gag in the series is that he cries for his Mama in every situation where he gets himself in a trouble.
She is a little sister to Doraemon who …
Doraemon on the Mission
How and why Doraemon came from the 22nd century to support Nobita? Well, it began like this. Nobita was lounging in his room on new years, the desk drawer suddenly popped up and there it went with this funny robot and a kid who claims he is Nobita’s grandchildren, Sewashi. According to Sewashi, Grown-up Nobita had no good luck in the future, a lot of troubles. He started his own company since nobody hired him, yet that company went down, got in a deep debt, his children and grandchildren were in troubles for it… So Sewashi brought this cat-shaped robot, Doraemon, to change the past to make their lives better. So, first off, caretaker Doraemon came to rescue failure Nobita.
How Doraemon Came to Life
Fujiko F. Fujio (U-NOTE)
Fujiko. F. Fujio was in deep trouble that his new manga series would start soon, yet he had not come up with any ideas at the time. He blew bubbles and mused the thoughts like it’d be great if he had a useful device which could give him new ideas… He was a usual suspect once he wasted his time picking fleas from a cat. But the fated day had come.
In the morning of the deadline for his new series of manga, I’d be damned! Nothing came up to me, I’m done! I’m ruined! He ran down the stairs screaming, he stumbled upon daughter’s tumbler, something sparked a cat and a tumbler had united in his head. That was the moment Doraemon was born. The concept is to help support failure with gadgets… it was he who wanted to be helped desperately. Nobita is Fujiko. F. Fujio himself. He was no good at any sport and always drew manga in his childhood.
Time-prove patterns of a story as one is endowed with special talent, use its power in a wrong way and have to pay the price for it… Very classic, what’s innovative about it is Fujiko used a tool/gadget as a special talent in old myth. You don’t have to be in a kingdom where a princess kidnapped or need to go slay the dragon, but right here right at this place with a single tool/gadget, the drama starts to happen and mundane turn into a wonderland.

What if Box
What if box (kokobiology0626)
It looks like a telephone box which used to be everywhere in town, but you don’t see them often now. But its effect is amazing. Doraemon explains it as an experimental box. The concept is a parallel world. You get in this box, pick up the receiver and tell it what you want. Bell rings, voila! The world you imagined is in front of your eyes. When you don’t want it anymore, you tell it, then it’s gone. You can go to another world where dead is alive. Anything you can imagine, it becomes reality. Unless your imagination runs dry, you can have an exciting life. This is the gadget you can experience What if the world is like…?
Jelly translator (NAVER)
A piece of konjac jelly, which enables you to understand and speak any known language in the universe. Robots can’t eat it, but you put the jelly on him, it can enjoy its benefit. The effect begins after the person ingests the jelly, but the duration of the effect is unknown. You can even read the transcript on papers. And it’s effective not only in human languages, but also it covers on animals, aliens, and robots.
Scheduling notebook (renote.jp)
This is a notebook which makes all your written dreams come true, so Doraemon claims. It is brought to realization with a wide range of wishes in various levels. You have to edit your wish lines to an extent where you can’t interpret otherwise. Unless you make your wishes very clear, some unexpected things can happen from your obscure expressions. Also, there’s a risk even on the way to see your desired result, some unfavorable things can happen in a kind of chain reaction. Sounds similar to the idea of making a avision board, they say writing down your desire bring the result even firmer and faster. But the difference is, with Doraemon’s scheduling notebook, it’ll become 100% reality, you couldn’t be too careful about what you ask for.
Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Star Wars (in.com)
Fujiko F. Fujio produced a lot of Doraemon films. In these films, Fujiko’s world view and thoughts are projected vividly and profoundly. Among many, Nobita’s Little Star Wars is one of the notable ones. It’s an homage for George Lucas’ Star Wars trilogy. It depicts an encounter and friendship with an alien, dictated world, adventure, and war. Doraemon, Nobita, and friends square up for the battle to take back befriended alien with gadgets and radio-controlled tank…
Doraemon and other characters more than often say acute and insightful lines. Here’s just a few of them we may be able to learn something from.
You gain nothing by following someone’s path.

DORAEMON QUOTES (FUNDO)
Sometimes your action cannot be explained by reason, that’s the human.
While you fret yourself, do just one thing.
Forget it and think something positive. (Pinterest)
Forget it, and think something positive.
Some people says Doraemon does not have a good effect on kids since Nobita always depends on Doraemon’s gadgets to tackle the problem instead of trying to solve it himself. Which claims is correct to some extent.
Usually, you project yourself on the main character, Nobita who is not good at anything but has a pure heart and gentle to plants and animals. Even after kids grew up, Nobita remains Nobita, but he can tell us things about ourselves. There would be always useful, convenient tools, the thing about it is how to use them matters. What DORAEMON tells us is the rich imagination which can create anything. However, if you abuse the tools and go against the goodwill, you have to pay the price in the end. It is very practical, isn’t it?
Doraemon once went back to his future, the place he came from, but came back to Nobita on his own will. He chose to stay with Nobita. A.I. with human, it is not the enemy, nor friend in the first place, but once they have a rapport and build the relationship, shared experiences and memories, they would become inseparable… It almost sounds like a prophet for this modern time.
How this is going to be like in the near future, that’s what we don’t know of and currently, we are living and experiencing the period ourselves. Doraemon was truly a visionary manga. He has unconditional love for imperfect human beings; he knows he is an imperfect robot himself. How can we love anyone or anything which doesn’t have any imperfection?
We need someone who is cornered with the deadline and come up with a seemingly ridiculous idea, so we know what the future holds. If we had Anywhere Door, we would be able to peek the future for both cats and humans…?
