Have you ever seen the Oiran Parade? In Japanese, it is called 花魁道中 (Oiran Dochu). I went to see it in Asakusa Tokyo last year and it was great.

For those who don’t know what an Oiran is, here is the explanation from Wikipedia. It could be controversial about the presence of Oiran back in the day, but now, the parade has become a tourist attraction.

A woman dressed up as an Oiran is picked from the locals and has the opportunity to walk on Banba-Dori Street connecting to the main road that leads to Chichibu Shrine.

Here is the video from last year.

This Sunday, I am planning to go to Chichibu, Saitama. Chichibu is a beautiful place, only 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Ikebukuro on the Seibu limited express.

There is a lot of things happening in Chichibu this weekend so if you’re near Tokyo and have time, why not visit?

The Oiran Parade will be held on Sunday October 29 at 12:30 and 3 PM.

You can check the Chichibu Tourism board for information on dining and other events taking place this weekend here.
