A recent discussion concerning vaccination documentation for people arriving in Japan sparked memories of my own run-ins with Japanese officialdom.

This tweet, if true, is an amusing story if don’t have to deal with over-zealous officials on a daily basis, and a painful reminder if you do.

Apparently, a non-Japanese arriving at Narita was required to show her vaccination certificate. Japan requires proof of 3 vaccines to enter the country. Fair enough.

You’d think proof of a 4th vaccine would be sufficient to meet the Japanese entry requirement of getting 3 vaccines. You’d think wrong.

The problem is the government document requires you to fill in the date of the 3rd vaccine and show official proof of that vaccine. It does not ask for information on the 4th vaccine.

If you didn’t bring proof of the 3rd vaccine (why would you since you’ve already had the 4th), you’d think it…
