JASON Learning is adding a major dimension to its Argonaut program!

Over the past 25 years, our Student and Teacher Argonauts have explored the leading edge of STEM by working hand-in-hand with scientists and engineers in field locations across the World. This tradition continues strong in 2018 (see jason.org/argonauts).

This week our Argonauts are taking a bold step into a new arena: that of Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship.

A group of 7 JASON Learning students and teachers from West Virginia, Texas and New York have traveled to Silicon Valley and the Bay Area of California where they will meet with leaders from companies at the forefront of the technology revolution: including Google, Apple, and Facebook; learn from thought-leaders in innovation and design thinking at IDEO and the Stanford School of Design; and work with investors who identify and nurture early-stage startups that will help shape our future.

While they are on this expedition, our Argonauts will apply their newly gained innovation, design thinking, and entrepreneurship skills to imagine and pitch commercially viable solutions to urgent, important problems; ranging from how to transport medicines in disaster zones, to designing toys that promote physical therapy for disabled or injured youths, to creating services that allow teens to make meaningful connections and become less lonely in a digital world. Perhaps we’ll see some of their products and services in the market in a year or two!

Stay up to date with our Bay Area Argonauts by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Monday November 5 Update.

Today we visited the new Apple HQ in Cupertino, CA. We got to meet Ann Thai, Senior Product Manager responsible for the Mac App Store. She shared her insights into how her team develops innovative new products and experiences for Apple customers, and the path she took to get where she is today (including the value of a liberal arts degree in helping her succeed in her current role!)

Tuesday November 6 Update

Cole Henderson is a Junior from Hundred High School in West Virginia.

When asked why he wanted to participate in this Argonaut Expedition he answered: “the trip … had companies like Google and Tesla as speakers. This really got my attention because I want to be a software engineer and I somewhat idolize these companies and what they have been able to do as far as advancing technology”.

Today we will be visiting Google and Bloomlife in San Francisco! More updates to come soon!
