What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when think about software development? Code? Tests? Hacking? Without any doubt, most of the time you will think only about technical stuff, and that’s right! However, this is only 35% (or even lower) of the required skills if you really want to succeed and make a difference in this industry.

1) Everyone can code

The first thing you must realize is that coding is not exclusive to software developers. In the last years there’s been a big need for professionals from other areas to learn how to code, for example, a Graphic Designer needs to know some JavaScript if he wants to customize a template, an Economist should know how to write basic scripts in order to create complex macro’s in Excel, a lawyer can automate email sending using just Python scripts…

Coding is a tool, not a discipline. Same as hammering a nail does not make you a carpenter, writing code doesn't make you a Software Developer. You need to look further.
