PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight’s game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Blue Wahoos Stadium at 7:35 p.m. eastern.

Miami Marlins centerfielder Lewis Brinson has joined the Jumbo Shrimp on a major league rehab assignment. Brinson has been on Miami’s disabled list since July 4 with a right hip bone bruise. Prior to his injury, Brinson had played in 84 games for the Marlins hitting .186 with 10 home runs and 30 runs batted in, and he was Miami’s Opening Day centerfielder.

Brinson, 24, was acquired by the Marlins along with Monte Harrison, Isan Diaz, and Jordan Yamamoto from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Christian Yelich on January 25, 2018. Brinson was Milwaukee’s Minor League Player of the Year in 2017, and also made his major league debut last season, hitting .106 with two homers and three RBI in 21 big league games.

The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, plus Brinson on his rehab assignment, and a revised roster is attached.

The Jumbo Shrimp and Wahoos will begin their series with the first contest of the five-game set on Tuesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium at 7:35 p.m. eastern. Left-handed pitcher McKenzie Mills (0–0, 0.00 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Pensacola left-handed pitcher Seth Varner (7–2, 3.01 ERA).
