GAME INFO:

The Jumbo Shrimp and Tides continue a six-game series an afternoon matinee today at 12:05 p.m. at Harbor Park. The Jumbo Shrimp lead the season series 22–10, and are 34–21 on the road this season.

MEET THE TIDES:

Norfolk is the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The Tides enter with a 47–69 record and are sixth in the Southeast Division.

Norfolk is managed by Gary Kendall, who returns for his second season with the Tides. Before joining the Tides in 2019, Kendall was the manager for the Bowie Baysox for eight seasons, setting the franchise managerial record for career wins at 570. Kendall led the Baysox to three postseason appearances, including the franchise’s lone Eastern League Championship in 2015.

Norfolk, like Jacksonville, is a very big Navy town, which is why the regular-season series between these two teams has been dubbed “The Navy Town Showdown.” As the winner of the series, Jacksonville will receive a ship’s bell as a trophy, presented by Geico Military.

The Orioles promoted catcher Adley Rutschman, the top-ranked prospect in Minor League Baseball, to Triple-A last month. Rutschman was selected by the Orioles in 2019 as the №1 overall pick out of Oregon State University. Since being called up, the switch-hitter is slashing .330/.425/.528/.954 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 30 games.

PITCHING MATCHUP:

LHP Daniel Castano (4-2, 4.71 ERA)

Daniel Castano will make his 12th start of the season for the Jumbo Shrimp. He is working on a string of five consecutive outings in which he has worked at least five innings. Over that span, he has given up just 13 earned runs in 29.2 innings of work (3.94), including seven shutout innings against the Tides on August 28 on his way to winning the Triple-A East Pitcher of the Week award. Castano was originally selected in the 16th round of the 2016 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. On December 13, 2017, he was traded to Miami along with Sandy Alcántara, Magneuris Sierra and Zac Gallen in exchange for outfielder Marcell Ozuna. Castano then made his major league debut for the Marlins on August 8, 2020. Castano works with a fastball, cutter, and curveball.

RHP Cody Sedlock (1-2, 2.75 ERA)

Cody Sedlock will make his fourth start at the Triple-A level this afternoon. He began his season with Double-A Bowie, where he went 5-3 with a 4.60 ERA in 17 outings prior to his promotion in mid-August. He did face Jacksonville in his lone relief outing with the Tides on August 27, giving up two runs in four innings while striking out five. The righty was drafted by the Orioles in the first round of 2016 out of Illinois, where he finished his career by earning Big Ten Pitcher of the Year recognition in a junior campaign that saw him set the Illini single-season strikeout record. He features a fastball, curveball, changeup, and slider.
