GAME INFO:

The Jumbo Shrimp will close out the 2021 campaign with a five game series in Gwinnett against the Stripers. This is the second meeting between the two squads this season, with Jacksonville taking five of six back in June. Jacksonville has won 15 of their last 21 games.

MEET THE STRIPERS:

Gwinnett is the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Stripers finished the regular season 68–51, third in the Southeast Division, just behind the Shrimp.

Gwinnett is managed by Matt Tuiasosopo. This is just Tuiasosopo’s second season as a manager in minor league baseball, and his first season with the Gwinnett Stripers. In 2019, he managed the Rome Braves, the High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, and won the Bobby Cox award for best manager in the Atlanta farm system.

Gwinnett is home to eight of the top 30 prospects in Atlanta’s farm system, including each of the top three prospects (Cristian Pache, Shea Langeliers, and Drew Waters). Langeliers will make his Triple-A debut today after being the ninth overall pick in 2019.

PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Nick Neidert (6–3, 3.53 ERA)

Nick Neidert will make his 13th start of the season tonight for Jacksonville. After a sensational month of August, when he pitched to a 1.93 ERA, Neidert has gotten off to a bumpy start in September, giving up 12 runs over three outings. The 24-year-old was originally drafted by the Mariners in the second round of 2015 out of high school and was traded to the Marlins as part of the Dee Strange-Gordon deal at the end of 2017. Neidert made his debut last season for Miami and has also made seven appearances (six starts) this year for the Marlins. He is the ninth-ranked prospect in the Marlins system and features a fastball, slider, changeup, curve, and cutter.

RHP Bryce Elder (2–3, 2.20 ERA)

Bryce Elder will make his seventh start of the season for the Stripers, in addition to nine each with Rome and Mississippi. Since joining Gwinnett he has struck out 36 in 32.2 innings. Elder was a fifth round draft pick in 2020 by the Braves out of the University of Texas at Austin. With the Longhorns he was named a first team All-Big12 selection in back-to-back seasons. His senior year at Decatur High School, going 7–2 with a 0.60 ERA his senior season, and threw back-to-back no hitters in the playoffs.
