GAME INFO:

The Jumbo Shrimp and Stripers play game four of a five-game series tonight at 6:05 p.m. Jacksonville has been eliminated from Final Stretch contention by virtue of a loss last night, in addition to the fact that Durham (8–0) picked up a win over Norfolk.

MEET THE STRIPERS:

Gwinnett is the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Stripers finished the regular season 68–51, third in the Southeast Division, just behind the Shrimp.

Gwinnett is managed by Matt Tuiasosopo. This is just Tuiasosopo’s second season as a manager in minor league baseball, and his first season with the Gwinnett Stripers. In 2019, he managed the Rome Braves, the High-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, and won the Bobby Cox award for best manager in the Atlanta farm system.

Gwinnett is home to eight of the top 30 prospects in Atlanta’s farm system, including each of the top three prospects (Cristian Pache, Shea Langeliers, and Drew Waters). Langeliers was named the Hank Aaron Braves Minor Leauge Player of the Year, hitting 22 home runs in 92 games with the Mississippi Braves. Travis Demeritte has also hit 21 home runs this year for the Stripers, becoming the third Gwinnett player ever to hit 20+ homers in back-to-back seasons.

PITCHING MATCHUP:

LHP Braxton Garrett (5–3, 3.86 ERA)

Braxton Garrett will make his 18th start tonight for the Jumbo Shrimp. Last time out against Memphis, Garrett gave up two runs over five innings, striking out five. He has given up two earned or fewer in 12 of his 17 outings, including in each of his last six starts. Garrett was a first-round draft pick for the Miami Marlins in 2016 and made his MLB debut last year, starting a total of two games for the Fish. He went 1–1 with a 5.87 ERA. Garrett has four pitches in his arsenal: a fastball, curveball, changeup, and slider.

RHP Kyle Wright (9–5, 3.18 ERA)

Kyle Wright will make his 24th start of the season for the Stripers. He has struck out 129 batters in 130 innings of work this season with opponents hitting .228 against him. The Braves drafted Wright with their fifth overall selection in 2017 out of Vanderbilt University. Wright pitched for the Stripers for the first time over the final few months of 2018, before being called up to the major leagues that September. He debuted on September 4, 2018, becoming the first member of his draft class to make The Show. In 2020, he made his postseason debut in October against the Miami Marlins during the NLDS, pitching six innings of shutout ball in the Braves’ Game 3 and series-clinching victory. He features a sinker, slider, curveball, four-seamer, and a changeup.
