For the NBA, the future is Giannis
Last night, the Bucks’ season ended after a 25-point comeback fell short. Milwaukee lost in game six to Toronto Raptors. As frustrating it is to see the season end for the Bucks, it’s comforting to know the future of the NBA is Giannis Antetokounmpo.
After becoming the fifth player in NBA history to leads his team in all major statistical categories, Giannis also became the first player to finish a season in the top-20 of points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.
Not a bad year for a 22-year-old. Here’s a look back at a few of the best moments of 2016–17 for Giannis Antetokounmpo:
January 13, 2017 vs. Miami Heat: How Did He Dunk That?
If you saw above picture by itself, would you guess that it ends with a dunk? Neither did I, but what do I know? This is one of the best examples this season of Giannis showcasing why he is known as “The Freak.”
February 11, 2017 vs. Indiana Pacers: He Took Off From Where?
Speaking of “How did he do that?,” Giannis blew everyone’s mind when he took off from just a foot or so inside the free throw line. Just looking at the photo of him taking off is mind-boggling.
January 4, 2017 vs. New York Knicks: Game. Giannis.
The look on Carmelo’s face is priceless.
Giannis showed no respect for the Garden by draining a fadeaway jumper a la Dirk Nowitzki. I’m pretty sure the Bucks lost to the Knicks later that week at home, but whatever.
February 18, 2017: All-Star Game
The highlight of the year — aside from the playoff run — had to be Giannis being selected as a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team. It was his first appearance as an All-Star.
Giannis spent most of the game dunking all over people’s heads — namely, Steph Curry.
The 2016–17 may be over for Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks, but the league has been informed: Giannis is the future. It will be fascinating to see how much he can improve — jump shot, anyone? — in the offseason, and what kind of team the Bucks can be in 2017–18.
If you need more to keep you going through the offseason, just watch this on repeat:
What kind of moves will Milwaukee make in the offseason? Who will they draft? What about Jabari’s health?
There are a lot of questions in Milwaukee, but there is also one huge answer: Giannis Antetokounmpo.
