Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) programs or Bill of Materials (BOM) managers are software packages to manage a product from design to production to sale. But none of them are geared to the person just starting. Most PLM software claims they offer solutions for products at the design and manufacturing stage. But few get the job done, and it’s never cheap. They market to the big companies with multiple extensive product lines and are often expensive, climbing in excess of $40,000 per year. They are often clunky, and require months of training to fully take advantage of all their features.
